Election Watch - Queensland

Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh, announced the date of the long-awaited (but still early) state election today. Us banana-benders will be going to the polls on 21 March.

Predictably the first stupid comment of the campaign came within minutes. From ABC News Online:

Howard Hobbs, LNP Member for the western seat of Warrego, says calling an early election was irresponsible.

“All of north Queensland is still underwater in a lot of ways and I think it’s very irresponsible of the Premier to in fact call this election while so many people will not be able to participate in the campaign,” he said.

“Mail runs won’t be running, roads are closed and I think she’s going to disenfranchise a lot of people in north and western Queensland by calling this election so quickly.”

Well gosh darn it Howard, guess y’all be havin’ to hang out ‘round the old wireless then.
