John Gunders is an Honorary Fellow in the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies at the University of Queensland.
He researches issues in the structures of popular culture, with particular focus on the media. Current research projects include investigations into the structures of value in popular music, and the construction of national identity in tourism advertising. He has published on topics as diverse as video surveillance, hypertext fiction, and the ABC television show, The Cook and the Chef. He is coauthor of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Memes.
He has a PhD from the University of Queensland (2010). His thesis was on “The Cultures of Authenticity: Popular Music, Food Television, and Travel Writing.”
